Legendary Discovery: Emperor Yu & The River Turtle
According to ancient Chinese lore, around 2200 BCE, severe flooding ravaged the Yellow River valley. The legendary Emperor Yu the Great was working on canals to control the deluge when a sacred turtle emerged from the muddy waters of the River Lo.
On the turtle's shell was an intricate pattern of circular dot markings forming a 3x3 matrix. When translated into numerical sums, every combination of three numbers—horizontal, vertical, or diagonal—totaled exactly 15, matching the number of days in each of the 24 solar cycles of the Chinese agricultural calendar.
